Federal investigators are considering whether or not to press charges against the crew of a container ship that hit the Bay Bridge causing the worst oil spill in San Francisco in about 20 years.
Thick fog apparently played a roll in causing this accident. California Senator Dianne Feinstein said that weather should not excuse what happened. Well, here’s my question: Why not? I don’t know anything about shipping, but I do know that San Francisco is famous for its fog. Perhaps better lighting in the bay, or better lighting on the bridge? Accidents happen. Does Senator Feinstein imagine that this crew isn’t already suffering because of this accident? At the very least, they’re probably all in trouble with their employer for damaging the ship and the loss of the oil.
